Who We Help

Early childhood and entering school (ages 3 to 5)

The early years are critical for identifying developmental needs and securing the services that help children thrive. Ask the Advocate supports families navigating evaluations, eligibility determinations, preschool special education services, and the transition into kindergarten. We help parents understand their rights, communicate effectively with school teams, and ensure their child receives the appropriate supports and accommodations during these foundational years.

K-12 IEP advocacy and dispute resolution

Navigating special education services throughout elementary, middle, and high school can be overwhelming. Ask the Advocate partners with families to review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), attend meetings, monitor progress, and advocate for appropriate services, accommodations, and placements. When disagreements arise, we provide guidance and support through dispute resolution processes, helping families work toward meaningful solutions that prioritize the student's educational success and well-being.

Therapeutic and out-of-district placement

Some students require specialized educational environments or therapeutic supports that cannot be adequately provided within their local school district. Ask the Advocate helps families evaluate placement options, understand district responsibilities, and advocate for programs that address their child's unique academic, behavioral, emotional, and social needs. We work closely with families throughout the placement process to ensure students receive the services necessary to make meaningful progress.

Transition-age students (18 to 22)

As students prepare for adulthood, educational planning should focus on building the skills needed for life beyond high school. Ask the Advocate assists families with transition planning, vocational training opportunities, independent living goals, post-secondary education supports, and access to community resources. We help ensure that transition services are individualized, comprehensive, and aligned with each student's strengths, interests, and long-term aspirations.

College counseling and college-bound students with disabilities

The transition from high school to college presents unique opportunities and challenges for students with disabilities. Ask the Advocate helps students and families understand disability accommodations in higher education, navigate college admissions, identify supportive campuses, and prepare for self-advocacy in academic settings. Our goal is to help students enter college with confidence, equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed both academically and personally.
