What Is a Educational Placement Consultant?

What Is a Therapeutic Educational Consultant?

Placement educational consultants are professionals who provide advocacy, guidance, and support for families who are researching programs with learning disabilities, behavioral or mental health treatment for their struggling pre-teen, teen, or young adult. Educational consultants maintain a high degree of knowledge around treatment options, including outpatient treatment programs and residential treatment centers, as well as alternative settings like therapeutic boarding schools. These individuals often have backgrounds in behavioral health, counseling, independent schools, or special education, and many have experience with addiction and substance abuse, and as interventionists.

What types of programs are available?

  • These programs are designed to serve youth and young adults who can benefit from community-based treatment including, but not limited to: outpatient therapy, recreational therapy, community service, academics, mentoring, coaching and support with addictions. These programs are overseen by a licensed clinician, and when offering academic credits, must have appropriate accreditation. Day treatment models such as intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization, as well as community-based mentoring and counseling models which include in-home and community interventions, may be typical of this category.
